This week we are taking a slight departure from how most people define a “Park”. We like the definition of Parks as “areas of natural, semi-natural or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats.” Add to that the fact that 99% of these places in Pinellas County are also free for the public to enjoy. Seaside Seabird Sanctuary scores on all our requirements for being a special place – a Park. It’s also free to visit though donations are greatly appreciated, and we strongly recommend that you give what you can to support the special work they do to help our feathered neighbors. You’ll see a multitude of these different birds up close, There is a gift shop, an education Center and you can even adopt a bird! They offer guided tours for individuals, families, and groups. One of Seaside's staff members will teach you about each of the permanently disabled birds that reside in the Sanctuary. There are special programs and events offered through the year so visit their website for information and tour pricing. Seaside has a dedicated team of rescue volunteers who are trained to rescue all species of distressed wild birds. Call Seaside's Injured Bird Rescue Hotline at 727-391-6211 to report a possible sick or injured bird. The parking area is small, so we suggest you arrive early. The Sanctuary is located on the beach and access from the beach as well. Hours are Monday through Sunday 8 AM – 4 PM.
