Another favorite stop for locals and visitors alike is located just East of Tampa.
The huge Toufayan Bakery of Plant City, Inc. is located at 2615 US Highway 92 East in Plant City, FL.
Just to the side of the main entrance to the factory you'll find their outlet store - The Cookie Shoppe - open 9-4, Monday thru Friday.
On any given day you may find overruns of Gluten Free chips, breads, bread sticks, croissants, wraps, bagels, rolls. Everything selling at 40% to 60% off retail. Then there are those shelves lined with bags of cookies.
These are five pound plastic bags filled with fresh cookies for just $2 and $3. On different occasions we have seen bags or packages of Chocolate Chunk, Brownie Brittle, Fig Bars, Cremes, Iced Lemon, Almond Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Iced Oatmeal, Coconut Rings and Bars, Coconut Macaroons and on and on - you get the picture.
This is nirvana for the cookie monster that lurks in all of us and well worth a trip to visit but get there early for the best selection.
German Bistro 2 ***** (5 Stars)
Searching for excellent German cuisine?
It took us awhile to find a really good German restaurant but it was worth the wait when we found German Bistro 2. The best part is you don't have to wait - we found it for you and highly recommend it.
You are greeted warmly when you enter the front door, treated like family all through your meal. When you finally walk back out the door you will be telling yourself you'll definitely be back. It's just that kind of place.
The meal starts with appetizers of warm, fresh baked bread with garlic butter accompanied by a very tasty coleslaw. Not familiar with German entrees? Not to worry as your congenial owner/hostess Irena will explain everything in detail.

The owners, a couple from the Munich area of Germany, make everything fresh and to your order. The red cabbage is a delight as are the homemade, hot or cold German potato salad and mashed potatoes with rich brown gravy just like Mom used to make.
You'll find all of the German favorites available - veal, chicken and pork Schnitzels, Sauerbraten, Jaegerschnitzel, dumplings, spaetzle and on. All made authentically with true love for their craft and their customers.
Live accordian music on select nights completes the picture. You close your eyes and are transported across the sea to the cozy gasthaus that all of the locals know and love.
Be sure to top off your fine meal with a piece of true German Chocolate Cake with a dollup of ice cream.

Granadino's Italian Restaurant ***** (5 Stars)
Let's Do Italian tonight!
Niki and I are always looking for great Italian – especially since Villa Maria closed their cupboards. We noticed a coupon for Granadino's Italian in Clearwater. We checked some reviews – nearly all were most favorable – and decided to give it a try and Mangia!
Granadino's is located in a small strip mall in Clearwater. Nothing impressive outside but – though small – a clean and inviting interior. Don't be worried by the Spanish accents you may hear – these folks do know Italian fare!
After drinks were ordered and served, the first warm loaf of bread was brought to the table – freshly baked with a cheesy, pesto sauce on top. Delicious . You will want a second loaf!
What to order? They offer pizza, subs, salads and burgers in the $8 to $9 range but we came for pasta. My gauge for determining poor, good or great pasta purveyors is the meat sauce. Niki settled on the shrimp and scallops pasta for her yardstick.
The salads arrived. They were large with the freshest greens we have been served lately and nicely broken up – no knife-work required on our part - a nice surprise. Very tasty dressing selections as well.
The entrees arrived – with another warm loaf of fresh bread – and they were both huge in size. Large helpings of pasta topped with mountains of delicious sauce! Some places serve small portions (usually at high prices) with a dainty daub of sauce on top. Not here!
It was not easy to accomplish the task of cleaning our plates but it was a thoroughly enjoyable one. Afterwards we looked at each other asking our time-honored question, “Would you?” meaning would you order the same dish again, to which it was a unanimous – yes!
We followed our dinners with a “made on the premises” cannoli which Niki had never tried before. Suffice it to say she may bypass her usual tiramisu and try a cannoli again in the near future.
Our check came to about $41 but became $28 with the coupon. Definitely worth the price with or without the coupon.
